Boise State Chess Club

Welcome to the new Boise State Chess Club web-site! The BSCC is here to promote chess in Boise and the Treasure Valley. Students and non-students as well as all ages and levels of experience are welcome to come play chess. We meet every Thursday night at 8:00 pm until Midnight in the Alexander Room, or somewhere close this, on the second floor of the Student Union Building on campus.

Room Reserved for Idaho State Closed!

That's right. The Idaho Closed is returning to Boise for Presdent's Day weekend 2010. We are expecting a HUGE turnout and we have reserved a great room located in the SUB on campus. The lookout room is big enough for 200 people+ and has exceptional lighting and great views of the city. Parking should be provided for free so keep checking in for details. Look for tournament details under the club schedule!

Game 10 Tournament on Thursday Dec. 17

There will be a game 10 tournament that will either be single or double round robing depending on turnout.

EF is $5 and the tournament will be held in the Alexander room on the second floor of the SUB @ 8:30

Patrick Flynn and Phil Weyland tie for first in blitz tournament. See results for more info.

First Club Meeting

The first Boise State Chess Club meeting was held on March 11, 2009 in the Alexander Room of the Student Union Building! This is the start of a great club that will hopefully be the home of many future tournaments in Boise. Much was discussed at the meeting on Wednesday night.

Discussion about the constitution, officers, and future meetings were all on the platter of topics focused on throughout the evening.

After the meeting, many stayed around to enjoy open play. Garrett Reynolds and Kurt Douglas had a few well fought games and tricky rook endgames, while Janos and Phil Weyland stayed most the night  playing G/25 games. It was a great turnout and awesome start to a new club in Boise.

Also, in order to best accommodate the majority, BSCC has agreed to meet on Thursday evenings in stead of the original Wednesday. Future meetings will be every Thursday from 6:30 pm until Midnight.

Revised Constitution

Much of the constitution was kept the same, but an overwhelming majority decided on removing the affiliation with the Idaho Chess Association (ICA) as it was not found necessary for our club to be under their umbrella. Note we still hope to host the Idaho State Closed 2010 as well as other ICA  tournaments despite not being affiliated with the organization.

Other than a few grammatical errors caught by Dick Vandenburg, the rest of the constitution remained unaltered.
